Mark Whitaker is a banjo player and singer/songwriter from Boston, MA. With a band consisting of banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and upright bass, he uses the instrumentation and texture of bluegrass as a vehicle for original music that spans a wide range of influences. The result is a mixture of memorable hooks, moving lyrics, and catchy grooves, all centered around the banjo.
"...his songs are complex, thought out but also extremely approachable. Every track on the album could be the single, they are all that good. There is tact and smart arranging but the songs are also very commercially and extensively friendly." - Red Line Roots Music Blog
"You could listen to him sing for hours and not grow tired..." - Evelyn Garrity, Sound of Boston
"Stellar musicianship, great vocals and some seriously great tunes but most importantly, listening to Mark perform live makes everything else go away. It's rare to see a performer put an audience in a trance as deep as Mark can. Once he starts playin', he's gotcha." - Tom Bianchi, host of the Lizard Lounge Open Mic Challenge and The Burren Acoustic Music Series
